How the Ghibli style photo converter works

Ghibli Style redraws your photo as one frame of cel animation: flat blocks of colour, almost no shading on the skin, outlines inked by hand so they wobble slightly, and a countryside behind you painted in the simplest shapes — a road, telegraph poles, trees massed into one green shape, a red roof on a far hill, and sky taking up half the picture.

Most Ghibli filters hand back a glossy illustration with far too much detail in it. This one goes the other way: fewer lines, quieter colour, more empty space — what a frame really looks like when you pause the film. One photo in, and about a minute later it's in your library.

Why reRAW AI

Why it reads as Ghibli and not as a filter

Flat colour, barely any shading

Skin holds one even tone, clothes are solid blocks, the palette stays with muted greens and sky blue. That restraint is what cel animation actually is — and it's the first thing most Ghibli generators lose by drawing everything far too carefully.

An inked line, not a vector

The outlines are bold, clean and a little uneven, the way ink behaves when a hand goes over the same edge twice. A perfect line reads as software. A slightly wrong one reads as drawn.

The countryside carries the frame

Behind you: a road heading nowhere in particular, telegraph poles, trees collapsed into a single green shape, red roofs on a distant hill — all painted as blocks of colour, never as detail. It's the parts left empty that make the picture smell like summer.

A film still, not a poster

Nothing dramatic is happening and nothing is drawn more than it needs to be. You're simply standing in the afternoon light, which is exactly how these films treat their characters when the story pauses.

It was the light that got me. Late afternoon, nothing happening. It's been my wallpaper ever since.

Ghibli style questions

Everything people ask before their first try.

Is the Ghibli style generator free?
Signing up gives you 30 credits — enough for your first few Ghibli images, no card needed. After that, each image costs credits.
Do I need a prompt to convert an image to Ghibli style?
No. There's nothing to write. Drop in one photo — Ghibli is already the selected style on this page — and pick an aspect ratio if you want a different crop. That's the whole thing.
What photo works best for Ghibli art?
One person, daylight, face easy to see. Because the style flattens shading almost completely, a plain phone photo does better than a heavily lit or heavily filtered one. Your face, hair colour and clothes carry over; the background is replaced.
Does it work online, with nothing to install?
Yes. It runs in the browser on a phone or a laptop — upload, wait about a minute, download. There's nothing to install.
How is Ghibli different from the other four styles?
Of the five, Ghibli is the only one that's deliberately underdrawn. Pixar 3D lights you like a lead character, LEGO turns you into a minifigure, Claymation leaves thumbprints in the surface, Rubber Hose is 1930s ink. Switch style at the top of the page and run the same photo again.
